Bellevue-Hale Neighborhood Association

Denver Colorado East Central

Bellevue Hale is a wonderfully dog-friendly neighborhood. Most of our dog owners know each other (at least by their dogs' names!) and readily greet each other with a smile and a wave while out walking their dogs daily. Please use this forum for your dog-related questions and conversation!

I've had discussions with several of my friends who agree that anyone who says that dogs can't communicate has never lived with or loved a dog.  Found this quote by a woman named Jean Little in an e-mail I received this morning:  "While he has not, in my hearing, spoken the English language, he makes it perfectly plain that he understands it.  And he uses his ears, tail, eyebrorws, various rumbles and grunts, the slant of his great cold nose or a succession of heart rending sighs to get his meaning across."

Celebrate your dog today (and every day) !

I enjoyed spending time in my yard this summer and early fall, meeting new dogs who pass by our fence and greeting those we already know.  My crazy pooch Chance enjoyed it as well -- mostly!  Will really miss that interaction now that the winter cold has crept in.  Everyone stay warm - and be mindful of the effects of the cold and snow on your pooch's paws!

One of our little furry friends is back home after a frightening adventure this past week.  Little Audrey, who lives on Ash Street with her 'brother' Groucho and her human parents, was frightened by the chaos of a minor car accident near Colfax and Garfield and jumped out of the car window and disappeared down the street.  She was lucky enough to have been rescued by a good person whose name we will probably never know and who took her to the City Animal Shelter the following morning.  We found her picture on their website and were able to reunite her with her distraught family.  This was just a reminder to be sure your furry friends are micro-chipped and that the information on file with the micro-chip company is current, and when you take your pets with you in the car, be sure they are wearing their collars and ID tags.  Glad you're back home Audrey !!!

One of our little neighborhood dogs is a hero!   The owner's human mom has asked me to shield his identity (she doesn't want this to go to his head!) but he is to be commended.  Last week he saw a strange man in the neighbors yard and barked his little head off until his human mom went to investigate.  She found strange man had shut off the gas to her neighbors house and was working with wrenches trying to steal her neighbor's gas meter.  When she confronted him he argued and tried to convince her that he had a work order and was supposed to be working on her neighbor's heating system.   The neighbors were out of town, but she called them on their cell and they quickly alerted the police and fire department.  The man was in a beat-up old Chevy Astro van with no business insignia, and the man was missing teeth and dressed in very non-professional type beat-up clothing.  He saw she and the dog were not going to go away quietly, so he finally decided to himself.  SO LISTEN TO YOUR LITTLE FURRY BEASTS WHEN THEY TRY TO TALK TO YOU !!! IT MAY BE REALLY IMPORTANT TO YOU AND/OR YOUR NEIGHBORS !!!

The competition is getting pretty steep for the cutest little dog in the neighborhood.  We have some really strong contenders!  We may have to do a "the Cutest Dogs of Bellevue Hale wall calendar" !!!
